About Nathan O’Reilley
Title: Department Coordinator – Canada East, Project Manager
Team Member Since: July 2012
I started my career at Spectrum Resource Group in July of 2012 after I finished my forestry diploma at the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) in Vancouver. I had previously worked in the film industry for several years after completing a film degree at Capilano University in Vancouver. Originally from New Brunswick, Canada, I moved to British Columbia in 2006 to pursue filmmaking and photography. One of the reasons I left the film industry was due to my wanting to spend more time outside, travel and learn about nature (after experiencing BC’s nature for the first time). One of the first jobs I applied for was Spectrum and the rest is history!
My career at Spectrum has been extremely rewarding over the years. In a very short amount of time, I have been able to travel across British Columbia for work, as well as the Yukon and Alberta. I started my career in the Invasive Plant Management (IPM) department (when there was just a handful of us) and have since gone on to work in almost every service line that Spectrum offers over the years in all four corners of Western Canada. It has been gratifying to watch and experience all departments at Spectrum grow over the years. I have been lucky enough to experience fieldwork in beetle probing, mountain pine beetle operations, wildfire risk reduction, layout, backpack herbicide, invasive plant management, integrated vegetation management, tree falling, brushing, machine work (mulching and logging operations), technical forestry, restoration, and many other departments.
One of my favorite aspects of my job has always been traveling, visiting new areas, and meeting new people, with my camera in hand, of course! Having a truck, travel trailer, and all equipment provided during summer months, I have had the opportunity to travel and camp in every type of region across BC over the last 10 years (Vancouver Island, the coast, interior, glaciers, Alaska, the middle of the Yukon, lowlands and high lands and everything in between). Working in some of these places has been some of the best moments of my life. I am so appreciative that I have been able to experience some of the most remote areas of Western Canada (including the wildlife) with my team and sometimes, with my fiancé and son.
In 2023, I am looking forward to new work adventures, traveling throughout the East Coast, buying a house, and building and expanding Spectrum’s work team and presence throughout Eastern Canada. I am also looking forward to spending more time with my family as we get ready to settle and develop this part of Canada.
